How Can Chiropractic Help Migraines?

Research has shown that Migraine sufferers have abnormal nerve impulses in the brain and spinal cord. Although it may feel as though the head may explode, it is not the brain that hurts. It is the other tissues surrounding and within the brain such as meninges, arteries and veins. The brain itself has little or no actual pain fibers within it.

These abnormal nerve impulses many times are caused by spinal subluxations. The medical approach is to control the pain through the use of pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications, which is a godsend to someone in the throes of a migraine. Although this gives much desired and needed relief of the symptoms, it does little to correct the cause of the migraine.

Chiropractic helps with migraines the same way it helps with many other syndromes it is able to help with, by the correction of spinal subluxations. Spinal subluxations are when a vertebra or vertebrae are misaligned in comparison to the vertebra above, below, or both above and below. Correction of these subluxations gives relief of many symptoms including migraines and headaches.

Migraine relief through chiropractic care is almost always as a result of correction of subluxations in the upper part of the neck where the spinal cord exits the skull and enters the spinal column.

If you or a friend or family member is suffering from migraines or headaches and have not tried chiropractic, you owe it to yourself to try chiropractic! A study published by Australasian Chiropractic & Osteopathy reported that 90% reduction in migraines in 22% of the chiropractic group and 50% of the group reported significant decline in severity of migraines.
