Shoulder, Arm and Hand Problems

Recent efforts by scientists have placed the number of cells in the human body at approximately 37 trillion. Shoulders, arms and hands are no different than the other cells when it comes to their control and function. They are controlled by electrical impulses from the brain.

If these impulses are interfered with it can cause pain, weakness, numbness or lack of function. One of the major causes of the impulse interference is vertebral subluxation.

A vertebral subluxation is when one or more vertebrae become misaligned with the vertebra above, below, or both. This closes down the vertebral foramen, the hole between the vertebrae; placing pressure on the nerve, which decreases the impulses that nerve carries. This can show up as the before mentioned pain, weakness, numbness or lack of function.

The nerves controlling the shoulders, arms and hands are known as the brachial plexuses. The brachial plexuses are made up of nerves that come out of the neck and upper back, C1-T2 to be exact. These nerves control the shoulders, arms, elbows, forearms, wrists, hands and fingers.

Vertebral subluxations can irritate the nerves as they exit the spinal column causing the symptoms in the shoulders arms and hands.

What causes vertebral subluxations? Almost any injury that involves the neck and upper back; sports, whiplash, repetitive use, improper backpack use, birth trauma, even injuries that seemed insignificant at the time can cause subluxations. If vertebrae are misaligned, aka subluxated, and not put back in place, it can be years before the symptoms appear. The lack of function may appear early but noticeable symptoms may not show up for years. Symptoms are always the last to show up and first to leave. Symptoms will almost always disappear before the problem is corrected.

Chiropractors are the only profession specifically trained to correct vertebral subluxations. Correction of vertebral subluxations almost always removes the symptoms, such as pain, numbness and weakness associated with them. This can improve your life and make your body function more efficiently. Many athletes are under regular chiropractic care because it improves their athletic ability.

You owe it to yourself to have a chiropractor evaluate you for subluxations and have a full flow of nerve impulses and symptom free life.
